A Legacy of Success
Established in 1857, Edinburgh University Rugby FC was one of the founding members of the Scottish Rugby Union and remains one of Scotland’s leading rugby union sides. The University has an impressive record in developing strong rugby teams, as well as players. EURFC has produced 72 young international players who have represented their national sides whilst still students playing for the Club.
EURFC Today
EURFC has gone through a major transition in the past 4 years, and competes in the British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) leagues against the likes of Loughborough and Durham Universities. Player numbers are higher than they have been for years, and the Club is beginning to attract players from some of the best rugby schools in the UK. With the provision of 10 coaches working with its 4 teams and the 1st XV receiving unparalleled assistance through strength and condition training and medical support, the University has made a significant commitment to maintain and build on the Clubs’ legacy for success.
Our Vision
With the investment made to infrastructure and coaching, the Club’s focus is now to its current and future rugby players. With sport increasingly professionalising, so does the pressure in time and costs to those wishing to compete at the highest level. This places a tremendous burden on our sports men and women wishing to attain success on the pitch. We believe that Edinburgh offers the best training ground for future stars of rugby and we want to encourage excellence both on and off the pitch. At EURFC we want to play our part in ensuring that every rugby player is given the opportunity to achieve their full sporting potential. The ‘Bedell-Sivright’ Scholarship Fund is the next step in ensuring that vision.
